NOMINATION FOR MARCH COM, 73-S SP PPL

Post by robEzerman » Sun Feb 22, 2009 9:46 pm

I believe this is the strongest example yet of a non-71-S SP "PPL", in this case a 73-S SP. From Brian.

Since the73-S Proof has a slightly different design it is understandable that the PPL images are not identical. What is identical is the same pattern of lower relief across the face of the obverse without significant loss of highest-relief detail, again pointing to a weakly hubbed die.

Like the 71-S SP PPL, it's interesting that this 73-S SP is also a DDO, in this case the doubled master die, Wexler's MD-1.

Now is the time to cherry Ikes. Lots of fruit still on the trees but don't wait too long. Rob Ezerman
