I spoke with Charlie about this one. Found in a bank bag of Ikes (with a Peace and ASE as well). He weighed it out, and weight matches silver planchet. 1972 no mint mark. I haven't heard of any silver planchet 1972 Ikes in existence. We'll try to get some photos posted.

How about that. Some good high resolution photos would be helpful here. Make sure you get a close up of the edge reeding if possible.

Now THAT would be "THE FIND" or the year! :o

However.....If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. For example:
1. There are no known such things to exist.
2. Looks like a serifed R to me (which still doesn't totally exclude a silver Ike)
3. Looks like raised islands under Florida, (which shouldn't exist on a 72-S Silver)
4. Looks kinda plated to me (some peeling) which would explain added weight.
5. Should weigh OVER 24 grams....not just right at.

Therefore, I vote for a plated 72-P Type 3.
I really don't want to rain on anyone's parade...
'Just my honest opinion after looking at tons of Ikes!
However, honestly, I HOPE IT IS an actual 72-S No-S Ike!! :D

Happy Hunting!

I agree, Brian - 72 Type 3 - plated.
The question is: could a silver planchet have been used in Philadelphia by mistake?
Charlie weighed some SB Ikes and got the same number on his scalethat he did with this coin, so I'm guessing the scale is not as accurate as we'd like.
It is also true that the plating could be accounting for the extra weight, but Charlie told me that most of the plating has flaked off.
Charlie also told me that the rim had no Cu/Ni core showing.
In the absence of better photos here, or an in-hand inspection by an Ike expert, my suggestion would be to have Charlie send it to NGC for restoration and weighing. What do you think?

I apologize to you experts I made some amateur mistakes the gold was real the coin dealer said they blasted the coin to attach the gold so it had that silver look there is no copper showing I borrowed a gram scale it weighted the regular ike at 22 and you saw what it weighted the other one when i put them a grain scale it was 22.8 and 23.85 it rounded one down and one up who knows I will do better thanks for the site thanks steve and the rest of you ikkies now tell me how to erase the posts or should i leave them charley
