1972 D question about DDR

Post by BadKarma52 » Sun Jul 02, 2017 3:33 pm

I was sorting through Ikes to complete my Dansco album. I noticed some odd features on this 1972 D. The coin doesn't show much wear, except the chest and head of eagle. The letters across bottom appear to have doubling...maybe entire reverse has error. New to field of errors, I was looking for some advice from experts. If anyone would have the knowledge...this is the place I'm sure. Very awesome site! The bottom pic shows the possible doubling the best I think

Few things:

1972D coins suffer from being poorly struck often times, and the eagle is a prominent area that suffers from that. Lot's of coins out there with eagles that look smooth, no feather detail.

The doubling you show on the reverse is machine or what's known as ejection doubling. VERY common on Ikes, both obverse and reverse.

This coin is basically an average 1972D.
