1976 Eisenhower S 40% silver uncirculated with split serifs on the obverse.

This 1976 S Eisenhower 40% silver uncirculated was given to me by my Grandfather in the same year it was minted. I have looked at this set a lot through the years and finally took a really good look at them through a loupe. I noticed that the letter R had a split in the upper left hand corner with added thickness to the devise. I also noticed a split in the serif at the bottom right leg of the letter R with extra thickness in that devise as well. I sent pics to Dr. James Wiles and his opinion it was too minor to list. Its a shame as I have never seen one of these with splits in the serifs. Still, I am glad to have it.

Good catch, but I would agree. Too small to be of much worth. Ultimately, every single coin struck could be a DIVa if enough magnification is applied.

Again, nice find.

Thank you, AndyO. I agree with the assessment, too minor. Maybe it’s a later stage and maybe someday one with stronger splits will be found.
