71-s FS-103

Post by 1872Hokie » Wed Feb 06, 2013 10:12 pm

I just picked up a lot of brown box Ike's, and think I am picking up some doubling in a couple of the coins and wanted to know the specific cues for the FS-103, and how to differentiate it from the FS-106.
May not have one of these, but fingers are crossed. Thanks.

Do some digging in the other forum sections. I know for a fact that we have various pictures of this in here - and good close ups.

Basically the FS-103 has doubling on the motto from botton to top

While the FS-106 is offset to the Northwest

I cannot and will not be held responsible for my typing errors as it appears that there is a bug in the keyboard!

Thanks Lee. Does the R play into it at all? Will the DDOs be peg legged or have a serif R?

Also, one of the coins appears to be doubled opposite of what you mentioned. Spreading appears on the right side of the T and R bases in TRUST instead of the left.

The 71S FS-103 and FS-106 both have the peg leg ODV.

Thanks. Any thoughts on the doubling I mentioned that I see on the bottom right of the R and T?

Thanks again Lee. These are great shots. What I am seeing is doubling that looks like it is on the opposite side of the FS-106.

It's not that easy is it Lee? What is the 1 diagnostic that is definitive and please post a photo. Could it be the prominent notch right side of staff on "G" in GOD?

Hub 8 is so confusing.

I just ordered a USB scope (should have taken Lee's advice and done this a while ago), so I will have some pictures as soon as that comes back. What I will do, is find what I think is a good representation of what I found, and I will post those pics and see if it helps. Thanks guys!

Edit:
Lee this is one of your pics posted on here, but it is the best representation of what I'm looking at.

I found this in one of the 71-SP and in a 72-SP. Please not that I'm looking at the doubling patter only, and my coins have the spreading in the lower right like this picture indicates.
