1973-SP DDO/DDR?

Post by Prime Mover » Mon Feb 17, 2014 8:01 pm

Was going through some for submission, and checked this under the scope. Wanted to get thoughts on the type of doubling on this.

Looks like TDO, and tripling in star 10 on the reverse (should also be able to see tripling in the lower right side of the R right above it). The reverse is master die origin. One can differentiate working dies (likely working hubs) by whether there is no doubling, or doubling, or tripling in the earth features).

Can't really tell from your earth photo. Looks like doubling? If so, that would make the reverse IDDDRM2. The obverse looks like a IDDD hub 3 family member - the same hub source of the FS-101. Check out The Ike Group big book chapter 18 and other sources to look into the FS-101 markers.

To me locally, it does appear doubled, but hard to tell. I'm not sure if it's the scope or what, but I'm not extremely thrilled with the quality of the images so far.

In any case I'll look it up and see. I think on the FS-101 there's a die line around the ear area, I'm looking for the rest of the indicators.

This coin was slated to go into PCGS today either way, I may just end up checking the "variety" box n the submission form and roll the dice.
