DIVA DDO question 1971-S BS

Post by NEKRay » Tue Aug 16, 2016 8:26 pm

Hello all. I'm attempting to formulate a comprehensive list of all varieties of Ikes with corresponding cross references. So what is the cross reference of Coneca's DDO-004 (VP-007) to DIVA designation? Anyone?

I believe that CONECA DDO-004 is WHO-001, die 1. This is die family 1 - a group of at least 10 dies (by my count) (Tom Kalantzis mentioned 3) with identical DDOs, likely from an upline working hub source.

To be clear, CONECA DDO-004 is not Wexler's DDO-004. Wexler's DDO-004 (classically paired with the DDR-21, hence 4/21) is CONECA (Wiles') DDO-007.

I prefer to throw out these other designations, follow TomK's lead, and call the group 1971S DDO family 1. Within the family, I identify dies by mint mark placement (MMP), enumerating them Family 1 MMP1, Family 1 MMP2, and so on. As I mentioned, there are at least 10 dies within this family.

All of the dies in this family carry the same notable DDO (easily seen in IGWT, and without a split W). Of the dies in this DDO family, only one has a DIVa catalogue number, and that is the 1SB-201, aka FS-401 peg leg. (not to confuse matters more, but the FS-401 actually has two obverse dies, only one of which carries the 1971S DDO family 1 DDO - which is why we have 1SB-201 and 1SB-202.1 and 1SB-202.2 instead of a single FS-401). Another that will likely become a DIVa is the as of yet not named (Broken Arrow?): http://forum2.ikegroup.info/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2604. There are other dies in this family that have other additional interesting features, like a near peg leg. I believe that the entire family is collectible, once clearly identified and catalogued (a project of mine to be released soon).

However, there are no dies from 1971S DDO family 1 that are in the DIVa catalogue as stand alone DDOs.

The DIVa 1SB-201 is in this die family, but is NOT the CONECA DDO-004, and is in the DIVA catalogue as a peg leg, not a DDO.

Thanks Steve. Your info is really helpful and I'm looking forward to new publications about Ike varieties!
