1978 D Peg Leg

Post by AndyO » Sun Oct 07, 2012 8:14 am

I picked another one of these up last week at a small show in Steelton Pennsylvania. This issue peg leg doesn't get a lot if attention from us, so I thought I'd check it out and snap a few pictures. As it turns out, there's almost nothing exciting to report on this variety based on the coins I own. Every one I have looks rather nice as in no clashes, bending fields, or heavy abrasion marks. (Hmm Rob, could it be...)

Anyway, here's a couple close ups. I did find the "Y" rather interesting in that it only has one pronounced serif.

Anyone else have anything to share on these?

I have two. Both have the same one-serif Y. On wobble, there is a slight bending field from the the top of Ike's head on both, however.

Steve, you are indeed right about the slight filed bend at Ike's scalp. I took it for granted, meaning it is not super prominent and I have always assumed most Ikes have a small/slight degree from the initial finishing process of the dies after final hardening and before entering service.

That doesn't make that line of thinking law, however, so keep your eyes peeled.
