Bell Clash 1976-D Type II

Post by NEKRay » Wed Aug 17, 2016 9:07 pm

I'd like to share what I think is a new find bell clash. At least different from those documented on Mad Die Clashes website.

Obverse has shadow of moon clash at lower right of the bust. Looks like the die was worked over heavily to abrade out original clashes evidenced by waviness between IGWT and bust. The clash on nose from the edge of Liberty Bell is only remaining clear clash mark.

The bottom of the bust must have clashed heavily over the north side of the moon on reverse die evidenced by excessive die work in that area.

Here is overlay showing how the dies line up.

Anyone want to compare/discuss their bell clash Ike examples?

Thanks,
Mike

Found one like this, in a PCGS holder:

Ended up like this, in an ANACS holder after getting John Roberts to agree with me that this just wasn't your average
rotated die Ike! The die got clashed at least 5 times and rotated a little, between each clash, Until it ended up finally stiking
a planchet and producing a clashed coin with a 50 Degree rotation.

Fred Weinberg said it was "Amazing!" and that he had "never seen anything like it!" There is at least one other example of these that I
know of, and it has a pretty serious struck through to go along with it.

WoW! Those are razor sharp!
Get a 76-S and you'll have a Bicentennial Mint set of them!

Happy Hunting!
