Coin show find

Post by DaveWantuck » Fri Apr 05, 2013 2:19 pm

Well, today I went to a local coin show, and since silver is down a bit, I thought I might be able to pick up some nice Brown/Blue Ikes....wrong  There were about 50 tables or so, and except for the foreign/coppers/ancient tables, I must have asked everyone else, and, the standard answer was 'nope'...or "I didn't bring them" or they gave me a binder with Brown/BlueIkes broken out and in 2x2's,and the prices were unbelievable :o Unbelievably HIGH. But the reason for this post...the first table I stopped at didn't have many Ikes, but I opened his folder and went to 1971D's and 1972's...First coin I picked up was 1971D, FEV/REV. $3.00....after I finished looking, I bought the coin and ended up with nothing else...bummer, except for the FEV. Just my little adventure for the day.

Good find Big D. It always feels good to pick a winner out of the rough.

I'll be at the Lancaster show tomorrow, we'll see what shakes loose there.

Andy...correct me if I'm wrong, but you usually find some nice 'stuff' at shows...but I'll assume from your statement that it wasn't just the show up here in Pittsburgh that didn't produce much. This was a show put on by John Sarosi (he's the dealer from Johnstown, PA) and he broke away from PAN. Speaking of which, PAN show is next month, so hopefully I'll find something at that one.I need to hear Brian say "Happy Hunting"...

I did buy a Franklin for $35 with end roll toning that will probably sell in excess of $750...if the obverse wasn't marked from a counting wheel. Seriously, it could be the best EOR I've ever seen.

I did by two silver Ikes to close up a roll, if that counts.

Andy...I don't know what an EOR is (error?) but I'm happy that you bought it....as far as the 2 silver Ikes to complete a roll---well, I'll let you slide on that one ;) ....I'm hoping the PAN show next month will bring out some nice stuff here in Pittsburgh....I keep thinking about Troy's $42,000 hoard in FL....do you think Brian might be prowling the grounds? :o He's been a bit quiet of late, I know he's got a lot going on...I wish him well....anyway, at least one of us found something at a show

End of roll..........of course  I have a Kennedy half like that, but I'm sure its not worth a lot of money....bytheway, congrats to you and the other Ike Men who got the FEV into the CPG....probably lots of politics involved in that transaction... ;)
