1976 S Varieties?

Post by mac266 » Tue Dec 09, 2008 7:47 pm

Greetings, first post here. I have a Dansco album for my Ike dollars, which includes holes for the type I and type II varieties in 1976. However, it only includes those varieties for the P and D mint marks, but not the S.

This is the version of the albums that does NOT include proofs, if that makes a difference, but it does include S mint marks (issued in mint sets only, to my knowledge).

My question is this: Did the type I and II varieties exist in the S mint mark as well?

Hello mac266. To answer your question directly, the business strike 1976 S was only ever made with the type 1 reverse. However, 1976 clad proofs can indeed be found with both type 1 and type 2. As you may or may not know, the clad business strike and clad proof type ones were manufactured in 1975. The type 2's were made in 1976. The 1976 S uncirculated 40% silver (the one you've asked about) and the 40% proof version were only made with the type one reverse throughout their entire mintage.

Feel free to ask as much as you like, there is a lot of information available here.

That's exactly the answer I was looking for, thanks.
