72 SB With HUGH gouge in his ear

Post by ahiter375 » Tue Feb 21, 2017 6:39 pm

This one is pretty sharp. I wonder if this would be interesting enough to be a Diva.
It has wider than most DBL on the whole motto and on LIBER.
Plus the HUGH gouge in his ear.
The reverse has fine DBL on ONE DOL and much wider on LAR, FG, some tail feathers, and the lower part of the leaves and stem.
All of the stars are DBL
I think OF AMERICA and at least RIBUS of the motto.
Some of this is hard for me to capture with my setup I can see it clearly through the microscope but the camera only sees a glare.
Thanks to shasta7 for the info and if you and some of the other guys can take a look and see what you think.

Sir,
Did you see a shadow moon on any of your coins? I don't have a one.

I think it is a better "Ear Defect" than the Checkov's Larva, (although not near as rare). It is also almost identical to the 73-S "Ear Ache" designated DIVA. There is obviously a pretty healthy population of them out there, so I don't see why we can't get it designated as an official "DIVA"? Steve, you have any of these on-hand to take a good gander at?

Happy Hunting!
Brian

I have only one in a holder but I have 7 more raw ones.
are you sure Checkov's Larva is more rare than this one.
I only have 8 of the big gouge but I have 11 of Checkov's Larva
I don't have any 404.1 but i do have 3 that maybe could be called 404.3
they are much later than the others and have had some of the markers polished or eroded away but still have the small gouge in ear.
