1971-D Obverse 'E' die gouge

Post by MichaelM » Wed Jan 10, 2018 11:41 pm

Hey guys, I recently picked up a roll of 20 mixed Ike's at an estate sale for $25. Most all were 1974-D in BU condition (kind of weird), so I feel like I grabbed a good bargain. One was this 1971-D BU beauty with an obverse die gouge through the 'E' in LIBERTY. I scoured the forum, the Big Book, the Wexler book, and the internet, but can't seem to find a precedent for this particular die gouge. So am I seeing this correctly?

Good looking coin!

I can't say I've seen one with a die gouge like that. I like it though!
'Could be a very good possible DIVA candidate if we can find another one.

Would you happen to know if it is an FEV? (Need a picture of the reverse to see).

Happy Hunting!
Brian

This is the reverse of the same coin. While it's in very nice shape, it's not an FEV.
