The obverse likely had a full run - some as the 2T2-101.1, and then the majority as 2T2-101.2. Finally the obverse was finished off near the end of its production run pairEd with the Type 1 reverse as 2T1-101.

Ok now here's a twist for you two expert 'pickers: how about finding the reverse of the 2T1-101 paired in a new obverse die marriage. May be hard to find the 2T1-101 reverse markers in later die state, paired to an obverse in an earlier die state than the 2T1-101 obverse. You know it happened. Like finding a pre-Cuddly TED FEV.

If anyone can find one it would one of you two. Ready. Set. Go!

Ok Steve...

I did as you asked... I went back & looked at over 300 of my 72-P type I Rev's... to see if I could
find the 2T1-101 paired with a NEW OBV... (I didn't find a single one)... so what this may tell us is that the dies may been replaced after a short time with a NEW Type I Rev or the NEW Type III Rev's... or ??? What say you.... :-)

We're talking about a March release obverse. Type 3 not in the equation at any point in these die marriages, IMO.

I had the opportunity to go thru approx. 1,000 ikes… (in the last few days...)

Here is what I had found....

3 - 1972-P Type II's (August Var)
3- 1972-P 2T1-101 ( type II OBV with Type I Rev) <--- these seem to be as rare as the 1972-P Type II's (March & August)
10- 1971-D/ 1972-D ... Multi Clashed (meaning coins had 3 or more clashes)
2- 1971-D FEV coins - (1 very nice grading coin)

The rest were avg run of the mill ikes… many with 1 or 2 small clashes... many that would grade as BU.... I'd say that
75% were below the AU in grade... seems that finding good to great ikes are getting a lot harder to find... (just my 2 cents)

I believe there is a lull period we are having for collectors of ikes… this can be good for these dedicated
collectors as they can reap the rewards... by continuing to look....

Overall I have found approx. 20 - 1972-P Diva # 2T1-101 Coins (most are also below the BU grade)…
If anyone is still interested in purchasing one for their collection let me know... ok

Happy hunting....

I was able to go thru approx 400-450 never looked at 1972 Ike coins... from 2 friends...
We found a few Type II's 1 (August Var) in BU MS-60 cond... other below BU (March Var...)
Many with some clashes BUT NONE of the 2T1-101's....

Starting to look like these coins are pretty scarce in any condition... would be interesting
