1971-S Proof Ike - NO LEG "R" and Reverse Anomalies

Post by FS-801 »

Hey, guys. I just received this '71-S proof in the mail today, and the R in LIBERTY is missing its leg. Also, there are 4 unusual artifacts on the reverse of this coin. I have included red arrows to point to them. I'm thinking these are the result of die gouges? They appear to be raised metal, and they are not nicks in the plastic holder (original mint capsule). The plastic is completely smooth and uniform right over these areas. Thoughts on this strange piece?

That's about the furthest FPL 71-S I've seen. Nice catch, I really like that one.

As far as the reverse, they look like strike-throughs. I personally don't see much if any value in them.
