1971-S Silver business strike Ike, is there a TDR?

Post by Sumdunce »

I originally posted this on another board but it did not seem to garner much interest.

I was thinking this was TDR but cannot rule out a DDO from a combination of WHDDO and regular hub.

Obverse:

Reverse:

The "C" in "AMERICA" (note the bottom serif tripled):

The Earth (note the east coast water lines tripled, and the west coast mountains tripled):

Just thought I would share here too.

I just realized that I had labelled the files TDO instead of TDR. Oh well, attention to details not strong when imaging I guess.

I cannot seem to get the tripling at the tips of the LL but they are there under my loop and grading lamp. However, when I try to get them to flare under the digital microscope, I cannot get anything but glare. I believe the die wear and surface refinishing (media blasting) is keeping the scope from getting a decent image.

I did however get the crater above "ONE" to image:

Here is a closup of the "ONE" crater:

That's a winner!

The pattern of doubling is identical to known upline doubling on the reverse of 1971S SB Ikes....but it is clearly tripled, which would make it highly likely a unique die TDR.
I have many Ikes put aside from this reverse doubling family. I believe I have this TDR as well. I'll take a look and get back. It would be nice to identify and share the other markers for this one.

I went through about 50 Ikes that have the same die family pattern.....no TDR.

Yours is a winner, IMO.

This family (I call it DDR family 1) has many dies, with a number of interesting side attractions (clashes, die cracks, DDO family 1 pairing), but I have not a single TDR like this.

Thank you for the information.

Scrape on the face had me thinking it was just silver scrap.

Good thing I checked it before tossing it into the scrap pile.

Originally found it many years ago. Forgot about it until recently when I got a new digital microscope.

I submitted images to CONECA for attribution but have not heard anything back. I don't know how long the wait is for them to take new material.
