Does a FPL 1971-S BS Ike have to have DDR?

Post by Sumdunce »

I found an Ike in the Ohio haul that to me appears to be FPL but I do not see DDR on the coin.

Sumdunce, go back to the Peg Leg Cheat Sheet. You'll see that it's the SPL (Straight Peg Leg) that has the big DDR.

Your Ike indeed looks like an FPL and higher grade, great cherry!

It now seems there are three obverse SPL dies, one with none or only the most trivial obverse doubling (check the upper right corner of the 7), one with very minor obverse doubling but you can pull it out with a 10X loupe, and one with almost major doubling,

From your picture it looks as if your Ikes has the marker Y and T, both with weak left arms. Rob
Now is the time to cherry Ikes. Lots of fruit still on the trees but don't wait too long. Rob Ezerman
