The fall groundhog sees double die in 5 of his Shadow Ikes
Afternoon all. New (older boy) here. First started collecting Ikes in '76. But thanks to the Ike group, got more into Ikes after my Dad had sold my Mom's parents collection when she passed on. They were more affordable than silver and it was what was given to me from them back then. Enough background, on to the find...
This may have been brought up in previous threads, but as I was looking at not one, but 5 of my Shadow Ikes, I definitely noticed more than the shadow contrail. They's doublin' in them thar obverses & reverses! So... "I shot the Serifs, but I did not shoot the Peg Leg Ike". As evidenced by what I will attempt to attach in photos, there was doubling on the obverse in the serifs of "L, I, B, E, & R" of Liberty, and in the " I & N, G, T R S T" of "In God We Trust". Then on the Reverse there is doubling on the serifs of the "N & E of One, and the "D, L. L, A, and R of Dollar; plus doubling in several stars as you go up to America.

We have two TDO 1972S SB Ikes listed as DIVa Ikes- 2SB-301 (nighmare on elm street) & 2SB-302: http://www.ikegroup.info/?page_id=1161
The split-W family of 2SB Ikes needs more study. Could be a DIVa or two in that family.
Otherwise, 1972S SB DDO / DDR Ikes are fairly common. The Shadow Ike designation represents little more than a die state wherein the "shadow" is still retained. Although, I prefer to own/see the Shadow Ike, it would not likely carry a premium, except perhaps with us hardcore Ike collectors.
BTW, great photos!, and welcome!

Thanks Steve. I did study the 2SB-301 and the 2SB-302 before photoing the five I have that are identical, and none of mine have the triple serifs as far as I can tell. And the other thing I thought set it apart was the amount of stars doubled. My thoughts and observations any way.

The 301 and 302 do not have a split-W. The split- W (like yours) family is worth looking into. I have a stack of them that I plan on studying in more detail. Your specimens may be helpful. Hang onto them.

Ahh yes, I see the center of the W in mine has a split point, hence the family name "split W". Interesting. I don't plan on getting rid of them any time soon.

For example, I posted photos on a 1972S "crater spike" with a DDO from the same split-W family: http://forum2.ikegroup.info/viewtopic.p ... lit=+1972S
Check your 5 to see if any have the "crater spike" reverse.

I checked all 5 & no sign of a crater spike.
